Social Equity Plan

We at Sacred Spore Company understand the importance and need to ensure that psilocybin therapies are affordable for everyone seeking them. While there are numerous groups we will hope to connect with and support, we have decided to heighten our efforts for two communities close to the cofounders' hearts.

The first community we will seek to support is the U.S. Veterans here in Oregon.  It’s an old story: the U.S. government sends young people into battle, causing tremendous trauma, only for them to return to the States with very little care for their mental health. One of the cofounders (and COO), Robert Brady, served in the U.S. Navy, and all of Matt Freitas’s (cofounder/ CEO) grandparents and his father served.  Our goal is to partner with Facilities and Facilitators who focus on or offer discounts to veterans.  We would also like to offer our medicine for free to patients experiencing financial hardships, in accordance with OHA regulations.

The second community we would like to help specifically is hospice workers and patients facing “end of life” anxiety, depression, and fear, especially those patients fighting cancer.  This is the most personal of causes to the Sacred Spore Company.  Having lost both parents to cancer (lung and esophageal), having watched them both go through the horrors of chemo/radiation, struggle with end of life anxiety, and both ultimately passing while in hospice care, Matt Freitas of Sacred Spore Company pledges to attempt to establish partnerships with service providers to donate in equal parts to what is purchased for patients who are in hospice care and overwhelmed with “end of life” anxiety. This will be done to ease the financial and psychological burdens of treatment for these patients with limited time remaining on Earth.

The objective performance measure for these goals will be noted in documentation to the Authority, outlining which entities we worked with and the total discount or donation amounts given.

Why does Sacred Spore exist?

Sacred Spore was born out of a need to heal.  A personal need to heal, a need to heal family, and a need to heal our community. What started as a vehicle to heal the self, transcended into a need to help the whole. I believe, and nearly all of science seems to agree, that psilocybin has the most potential to help our hurting and suffering community. Whether it's the soldier back from his third tour of duty dealing with PTSD, or the nurse working years on end trying to save lives from COVID suffering from anxiety from seeing so much suffering. Whether it's the school teacher battling depression because she doesn’t know how she can possibly help ALL the students with their issues stemming from the pandemic, or the alcoholic trying his best to beat the disease of addiction before it ruins his life. Psilocybin is giving people hope, a light when they find themselves in a dark and lonely place. It’s not like the pharmaceuticals on the market that create dependence, psilocybin actually creates new neural pathways, literally reawakens neural pathways lost to depression and allows people a new way forward, a break in the chain of negative thoughts and feelings.

This is no longer conjecture, this isn’t just someone’s opinion or someone’s skewed analysis. Psilocybin has passed the most rigorous of scientific analysis and testing imaginable and has shocked much of the scientific community with its efficacy rates. And what’s more? It’s safe. It’s better tolerated by the body than even Tylenol.  Whether it's Johns Hopkins College, or Yale, or Berkeley, or Mount Sinai or the Imperial College of London, they all agree that the science of Psilocybin is important enough to build new curriculums around.  We are here to help facilitate the healing and growth that psilocybin mushrooms offer.

Sacred Spore exists out of a need to help, a need to have a positive impact on the world. Cultivating the best, most reliable medicine for therapeutic uses here in Oregon and finding partners to work with to keep it available to all who seek it, is our primary goal.
